Los Cabos is a collection of large towns, little fishing villages and expansive desolate beaches, Rock N Roll bands such as the Rolling Stones, The Eagles and The Beatles frequented Cabo in the 60s and 70s, leaving behind a wealth of artistic culture and history. Over the last 60 years, Los Cabos has seen a huge transformation from a little known desert to one of the greatest holiday destinations in the world, resorts and golf courses span the coast line along the trans-peninsula highway, with an endless choice of amazing restaurants and bars, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Cabo San Lucas boasts fantastic nightlife whereas San José del Cabo offers a little more tranquillity with only a few bars breaking up the art galleries and eateries - be sure to check out the famous Thursday night art walk in the central plaza!
Live-A-Board Diving vs Diving in Los Cabos
Many of the best dive sites in the world are accessible only via live-a-board style accommodation. This includes the “near-by” destinations of the Socorro Islands, the Cocos Islands, and the Galapagos archipelago. The diving in these spots is world renowned for its abundance and variety, and in some diver’s opinions, this cannot be matched. We respectfully disagree.
Gordo Banks and the surrounding sites offer the same abundance, species, and variety as the much further flung and famous sites in the Pacific Ocean.
The big advantage over diving on shore-based sites is the flexibility that is afforded to you. You have the choice of your accommodation, food & beverages, and activities. You’ll often hear our instructors talking about playing golf the afternoon after a great morning dive! Check out our “Los Cabos” page for the region’s best activities and pastimes. Don’t forget, this area is a playground for all manner of tastes.
Other advantages include not having to sail for 24-36 hours to get to the sites, the international airport of Los Cabos is 30 minutes from the dive centre and the diving/accommodation/activities is often far cheaper.
