FUN TECHNICAL DIVING IN LOS CABOS
Technical diving in Los Cabos offers experienced divers the opportunity to explore some of the most dramatic underwater environments in the Sea of Cortez. From deep offshore seamounts and pelagic encounters at Gordo Banks, to remote reef systems like Iman and structured pinnacles at Skywalker, this region provides a rare combination of depth, marine life and varied topography in one location.

FUN TEC @ GORDO BANKS
Gordo Banks is one of the most iconic offshore dive sites in Mexico and a true highlight of technical diving in the Sea of Cortez. Located approximately six miles offshore from San José del Cabo, this deep seamount system rises dramatically from depths greater than 200 metres to shallow pinnacles around 30 metres, creating an environment that attracts large pelagic species throughout the year.
Technical diving at Gordo Banks is defined by deep profiles, open-ocean conditions and the opportunity to encounter schooling scalloped hammerhead sharks in their natural environment. Alongside hammerheads, divers may also encounter silky sharks, tuna, jacks and other large pelagic species moving through the blue. Strong visibility and deep drop-offs make this site one of the most exciting and demanding dive environments in the region.
A technical dive at Gordo Banks offers steep underwater terrain, constant blue-water exposure and the need for strong buoyancy control and situational awareness. It is a site that rewards experience and preparation, making it ideal for advanced divers seeking real offshore diving conditions.
FUN TEC @ IMAN
Iman is one of the most underrated and least explored deep reef systems in Los Cabos, offering a true sense of exploration for technical divers. Located approximately one hour from San José del Cabo, this offshore bank remains largely untouched compared to more frequently dived sites, which makes every dive here feel unique and unpredictable.
At depth, Iman reveals a vibrant reef system filled with schooling fish and active pelagic life. Divers often encounter large groups of snappers, hunting dorado and other fast-moving predators working the reef structure. On occasion, marlin and sharks pass through the area, adding to the sense of open-ocean unpredictability that defines this site.
FUN TEC @ SKYWALKER
Skywalker is a shallow-to-mid depth reef system located just offshore from Palmilla and is one of the most versatile dive sites in the San José del Cabo area. While commonly used for recreational diving, its structure extends into deeper sections that make it an excellent training and skill development site for technical divers.
The site is made up of coral pinnacles, sandy channels and reef formations that create a varied underwater landscape. These structures attract a wide range of marine life including rays, turtles and reef fish that gather around cleaning stations throughout the area. In deeper sections, reef sharks can often be seen patrolling the drop-offs while stingrays and eagle rays move across the sand.
Skywalker is particularly valuable for technical divers as it allows for controlled practice of buoyancy, navigation and team diving procedures in a stable and accessible environment before progressing to more challenging offshore sites.
TRIMIX
Baja California Sur sits along a highly active tectonic region, shaped by the San Andreas fault system. This geological activity has created a dramatic underwater landscape of deep canyons, steep walls and complex reef formations that extend far beyond recreational diving limits.
Trimix and advanced technical diving in Los Cabos opens access to deeper environments where nitrogen narcosis becomes a limiting factor and gas management becomes critical. These dives allow experienced technical divers to extend their depth range safely while maintaining clarity and control at depth. Most divers are happy with the level they reach when they first learn to dive, but for the few who want to challenge themselves, grow and develop as divers they move towards technical diving.
Technical diving teaches new procedures for extended and adventurous diving, opening new sites, depths, animals and experiences to those who can do it. All our instructors choose to teach technical diving above anything else, it is our passion, our hobby, and our living. All instructors are IDC Staff instructors and have a minimum 6 years teaching experience.

CORE COURSES
TEC40
The Tec 40 course is the first step into the world of technical diving, designed for certified divers looking to expand their underwater skills. It focuses on the use of enriched air nitrox and introduces divers to decompression diving within recreational limits. In Tec 40, participants learn to plan and execute decompression dives using a single decompression gas and a single stage decompression cylinder. The course also emphasizes equipment considerations, gas management, and emergency procedures, laying the groundwork for safe and responsible technical diving practices. Tec 40 serves as a pivotal point for divers seeking to venture beyond recreational limits while instilling a solid foundation for subsequent levels of technical diving training.

TEC45

Tec Deep focuses on the use of multiple gasses for decompression, advanced dive planning, and sophisticated equipment configurations.
